What is FreshlyFit’s clinical study?

Freshly sponsored a 16-week clinical study to understand and quantify the potential benefits of eating FreshlyFit—Freshly’s line of carb- and calorie-conscious, protein-packed meals. We teamed up with Biofortis, an external research firm specializing in study design, study protocols, and statistics to help design and conduct the study.

The study was carried out in compliance with the protocol and in accordance with Good Clinical Practices (GCP) as described in the ICH Guidelines for GCP 1996, the applicable US Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) [i.e., 21 CFR including parts 50 and 56 concerning informed consent and Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulations], and the Declaration of Helsinki (2013 Version). Signed written informed consent for participation in the study was obtained from all subjects before protocol-specific procedures were carried out.

How was the study designed?

This was a single-arm study that included a total of 5 participant check-ins: one screening visit, one baseline visit, and three study visits. Participants were directed to eat FreshlyFit meals as part of a generally moderate- to low-carbohydrate background diet within the participants’ calculated energy needs.

Who participated in the study?

A total of 51 subjects met trial parameters and were enrolled in the study and 47 subjects were included in the mITT population. Of the 51 subjects enrolled, 4 subjects terminated prior to visit #3 and could not be included in the mITT population. All participants were considered overweight or obese, each with a body mass index (BMI) of 25.0-34.99 kg/m2 (inclusive). Study participants were volunteers and were informed of their right to withdraw from the study at any time.

How often did participants eat FreshlyFit meals and for how long?

Participants were instructed to enjoy FreshlyFit meals twice daily, 7 days per week for 4 weeks, followed by twice daily, 6-7 days per week for 12 weeks. Over the 16 weeks, participants self-selected their desired FreshlyFit meals.

What were the results?

The study concluded that the consumption of FreshlyFit meals as part of a generally moderate- to low-carbohydrate background diet is safe and may be associated with weight loss as well as other aspects of health, including increased perceived energy levels and quality of life, in some individuals, over 16 weeks. Results not typical. On average, participants lost 6.8lbs over 16 weeks.
